Glycopeptides

GlcNAcylation is one of the posttranslational modifications of intracellular and nuclear proteins.

This modification by GlcNAc is known to occur in over one thousand proteins and regulated dynamically by metabolic pathway in the similar way to protein phosphorylation.

Protein O-GlcNAcylation has been shown to happen cooperatively with or competitively to protein phosphorylation, implying that O-GlcNAcylation possesses the function in the modulation of cellular signaling and transcriptional regulation. It has also been suggested that O-GlcNAcylation has some roles in diabetes and aging.
